Minutes of Forth Canoe Club Committee Meeting held 4 May 2010

Present: Annemarie Procter, Jonathan Riddell, Polly Golding, Mick James, Kirsten Eveleigh, Kristina Medovcikova, Alistair Riddell, Cynthia Berry, Kelso Riddell

Events:
*    Canal Festival - confirmed for 26 June.

*    Rat Race - Sat 17 July - FCC to organise a challenge. Annemarie Procter to coordinate.

*    Craiglockhart Primary School fair - Mick James to organise try out session on canal. Try to get people to sign up for summer sessions. FCC to donate family training session as auction prize. Kirsten Eveleigh, Polly Golding and Kelso Riddell to assist.

*    Active Schools at Portobello HS - did not happen. Boats to be collected and returned to boathouse.

*    Barbecue and Child Protection awareness - to take place 27 May.

Clarification of membership policy - anyone is free to apply to join the Club. Keys only issued with agreement of Hut Custodian after consultation with committee by email.

Alistair Riddell to arrange cash tin for boathouse, to be bolted to table. Polly Golding & Jonathan Riddell to have keys.

Boats in the boathouse - boathouse is completely full. Mick James not allowing more boats from members. General principle agreed that priority should be given to boats which are in regular use on the canal. Cynthia Berry to talk to Ian Bownes to see whether he will move a boat/s. Jonathan Riddell to update web site to state boathouse full. Boats used by adults to be kept high - kids' boats lower down.

Club to buy Brignells' Pyranha Club boat for Club use.

Stickers for boats - Mick James has design; trying to source printer.

Risk Assessment - General risk assessment for canoeing activities at canal, adopted with minor amendments. To be displayed in boathouse, published on website and emailed to members.

All paddlers taking part in club activites to wear an approved buoyancy aid while on the water - signs to this effect to be displayed in boathouse.

Kristina Medovcikova to check first aid kit in boathouse.

Summer Club nights - to take place Thursdays, 1830 - 1930, starting June. Maximum of six juniors and six adults, to be booked in advance in 4-week blocks, booked on website. Cost £40 including club membership.

Landscape gardener who offered to decorate boat by steps - no objections from FCC.

Club Constitution - SCA likely to require affiliated clubs to update constitution. Annemarie Procter and Kelso Riddell to review.

Club Handbook (Annemarie Procter) - carried over to next meeting.
