Minutes of Committee Meeting Tuesday 25th August 2009, 7.30pm – 10pm
Present: Cynthia Berry, Polly Golding, Kelso Riddell, Annemarie Procter, Jonathan Riddell (website), Kristina Medovcikova (SCA coach)

1.Purchase of buoyancy aids etc. (PG)
Purchase agreed:
5x 30-40kg and 5x 40-50kg buoyancy aids (KM and PG to cost & buy)
Slalom, multi-purpose and Canadian ends (PG to buy)
2.Club nights
Club nights need to be more structured with opportunities for progression in different disciplines and progression for club coaches. Club nights need to be well-run and safe.
Thursday 27th August: no new paddlers. Start waiting list. Explain programme for Sep/Oct. to existing paddlers.
From Thursday 3rd September until Thursday 15th October, we will run 3 groups:
Lightning 8-12 yrs (start: 6pm)
Slalom 8-12 yrs (start 6.15pm)
Intro. 8-12 plus adults (start 6.30pm)
Coaches: Kristina, David Dickson, Cynthia Berry
Assistant coaches: Annemarie Procter, Ben Golding, Jonathan Riddell
The programme will be reviewed after the final session.
3.Winter pool sessions (DD)
The pool has been booked for FCC on Friday evenings from 6pm-9pm starting Friday 30th October.
From 30.10 – 18.12 (8 sessions) we will run 5 x 30 minute slots, with 3 places/boats in each slot:
6pm junior beginners
6.30pm junior improvers
7pm adult beginners
8pm adult improvers
8.30pm advanced
Participants will sign up in advance for 8 sessions in one time slot. Total cost £32.00.
JR to prepare booking spreadsheet.

4.KM’s summer courses, winter sessions and after-school activities
Summer courses have been very successful and have generated £1000 profit for the club.
KM will run winter fitness training sessions for juniors 2 evenings per week: Tuesday swimming at Sciennes and Thursday indoor training at Craiglockhart.
After-school activities will run 4pm-5pm on 4 days per week through the winter.
5.Work day
There are a number of jobs to do at the clubhouse.
Priority: paving slabs need to be relaid. Agreement to have bike lock-up facility. Club will cover cost of materials and labour. KR to arrange.

6.Website: membership database
JR has set up membership database. Existing members have been entered. New memberships available online from September. Online renewal available from January 2010. Agreement to re-introduce family membership. All members must be registered individually to comply with insurance regulations. We need to know who is a member of the SCA. If member of SCA, provide SCA number.
Storage discussed. To be reviewed at next AGM (November).
7.Use of flag boats
Proposal that there is an annual charge for use of K1 flag sprint boats. Agreed: £100 for non-competing members’ use at club night; £50 for competing members. This will start from September, the charges being £40.00 and £20.00 respectively for the remainder of 2009.
8. Sharing canal space with other boats
KR has been invited to attend meeting with British Waterways and representatives of other canal users. We need to work to promote good relations with other water users. Concern re. incident involving a rower being verbally abusive to an FCC coach in front of junior FCC paddlers.
