Activities at Forth CC

Our members paddle all styles of canoes: open and closed, canadian and kayak, recreational and competition.

Club Nights

Club Nights are on Thursdays at 18:30 at the boathouse by the canal from April to October. All canoeists welcome. (Children too, but they should be suitably supervised.)

Bath Sessions

We hold bath sessions in the winter to practice skills including eskimo rolls in a swimming pool.

Beginners Coaching

There are beginners coaching sessions run on some Thursday club nights and lasting for 4 weeks. Inquire to Jonathan if interested. All ages, booking required.

There are summer courses for a week long introduction to canoeing for 8 to 12 year olds.

Lightning Sprint Training

Lightning Sessions for under 12s. Twice a week, contact Colin.

Social

Our monthly social is the first Wednesday of each month from around 20:30 in the Ettrick Hotel bar.

Recreation

We do frequent trips on rivers and the sea. Come to a club night and ask what's planned.

Competition

Polo

Canoe polo: two teams compete to get the ball in the opponent's net. Forth plays in the Scottish divisions and tournament.

White Water Racing

Race down a river as fast as possible. Forth includes previous Scottish womens and junion champtions.

Slalom

Racing through a course of gates. Our boathouse in Edinburgh has a set of slalom gates for training on the canal. Forth Canoe Club has produced Olympian slalomists including David Florence who won silver in Beijing in 2008. Training sessions are held most weeks at the canal with several paddlers also going to Grandtully regularly.

Sprint and Marathon

Flat water racing for the speed demons. Regular training sessions are held at Forth by Kristina Medovcikova, a coach from the Scottish Canoe Association.

Surf

The thrill of the waves without the bother of having to stand up. Forth has been home to champion surf canoeists such as Neil Baxter.
